How we got here
When St. Peter was established in 1914, the congregation first gathered on Commerce Street, in the area then known as the River Front. As the church grew, it moved to the corner of South and Martin Streets. On April 22, 1973, St. Peter dedicated the building it still calls home today — designed, financed, and built from the ground up by its own members and board.
110+ years, marked one season at a time
St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church is established near Jackson's river front on Commerce Street.
On April 22, members design and build the current sanctuary at 1580 W. Ridgeway Street, buying the land and the church's first bus along the way.
St. Peter organizes and chairs the Mid-Mississippi Crusade for Christ, with Dr. Tony Evans as evangelist.
A Discipleship Conference brings five national speakers to St. Peter, and the church purchases a second bus.
St. Peter chairs another major Jackson crusade, again with evangelist Dr. Tony Evans.
St. Peter Daycare & Christian Learning Center opens its doors to the community.
St. Peter chairs a major Jackson crusade with evangelist Dr. E.V. Hill.
The church's first building addition brings new classrooms, an exercise room, offices, a game room, and showers.
The Family Life Center opens with a full-size basketball court, kitchen, classrooms, and offices — later named in honor of Veola C. Washington, mother of Pastor James A. Washington, Jr. and wife of Rev. James A. Washington, Sr.
St. Peter Christian Academy opens, welcoming its first K–6 class. (The Academy closed in 2011; the Daycare & Christian Learning Center continues today.)
The church purchases land on Cardinal Street to begin ABC (All Because of Christ) Ministries — counseling, health screenings, and family care.
Rev. James A. Washington, Jr. is installed as Senior Pastor, continuing his father's 53-year legacy of shepherding St. Peter.
